5 Ways to Nurture Your Child’s Love For Science

Every Montessori Learning Center in Orange, California focuses on hands-on learning. With the Montessori method, children are encouraged to learn new things and experience them.

While all subjects are being tackled, Science is probably one of the most interesting subjects for many children such as yours. Help them nurture their love for the subject through the following ways.

  1. Let them use all the five senses to learn about everything around them.

Allow your young ones to see, taste, feel, hear and smell things that are new to them. Let them experience what new items are about. Doing so helps them completely understand, at a certain level, what a particular item can do.

Just make sure to keep them safe, though. They might try putting something dangerous inside their mouth. Supervised observations are strongly advised.

  2. Help improve their scientific vocabulary.

Science-related words are not only learned in Kindergarten or any other formal education setting. They can also learn from you. You can help improve their scientific vocabulary by simply saying the word that corresponds to the item that you may be holding or they may be looking at. Allow them to repeat the word.

  3. Read Science books to them.

Science books are boons which can help your little ones learn more about the subject. There are books that tackle animals, plants, planets and more. As much as possible, go for picture books. It will be easier for your youngsters to identify a certain animal or plant in the real world when they already have an idea of what it looks like through the books.

  4. Take time to explore the outdoors.

Going outdoors is a great way to explore nature. Nature is the finest example of everything that relates to Science. So, schedule outdoor tours or camping to give your children the opportunity to explore the environment. As always, supervise them during their explorations to keep them safe.

  5. Encourage them to ask questions.

Any child will be curious about most things that are happening around them. Be open to listening to their questions. Try to answer these questions as simply and as best as you can.

Do not be ashamed to admit that you do not know something. This is actually a great chance for you and your little ones to learn together.
