Developing the Communication Skills of Your Toddlers

Communication is an essential tool for an individual to understand others and be understood by them. Through communication, people can connect to other people, expressing feelings either in a verbal or non-verbal way.

Toddlers do not initially know how to communicate. They will need your guidance and even support from providers of Child Care Service in Garden Grove, California to nurture their communication skills. Help them develop such skills through the following tips:

  • Respond to your baby

Responding to your baby’s attempts to communicate with you encourages them to develop their skills. Of course, they are not yet capable of using and saying comprehensible words, often communicating with coos, sounds, and gestures. When you respond to these things, you let them know that they are effective and good communicators.

  • Engage in conversations with your young ones

Talk to them. Remember, they are listening to you and are trying to mimic you even if they still cannot thoroughly understand what you are saying. When conversing with toddlers, be sure to give them enough time to process what you are saying and respond. Through this, they will know that you are willing to be patient with their communication development.

  • Read books together

Books are great materials that can help develop communication, language, and even vocabulary skills, among others, in toddlers. Read books that are appropriate for your young ones’ age groups such as in their Kindergarten years. Go with simple stories and progress from there.

Other alternatives to reading books are listening to children’s songs and practicing nursery rhymes.

  • Enroll them in a Montessori Learning Center in Orange, California

In this center, young ones have plenty of opportunities to nurture their communication skills. They get to explore and learn new things while in a safe environment. Various activities will also help them in building their skills and other abilities.

  • Teach them non-verbal communication

Communication is not only verbal in nature. Non-verbal communication is also essential. Help them understand what certain gestures and facial expressions may mean in certain situations.

Contact Shepherd Montessori Learning Center for your inquiries about our programs. We’ll be glad to help you develop your young ones’ abilities in a Montessori way.
