Montessori Tips to Encourage Your Child to Do Chores

Montessori Tips to Encourage Your Child to Do Chores

A lot of people, whether young or old, don’t like doing chores. More so if we’re talking about kids who are still in Kindergarten. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to make your children more receptive to doing chores like:

  • Consider their mood and readiness.
When it comes to the Montessori-style of learning, the children’s readiness takes precedence. You cannot force them to learn something they don’t like to do or are not prepared to learn. The same is true for chores. Don’t assume that they already know how to do things even if it’s something really simple. Guide them and don’t force them into completing chores if they’re not in the mood to do so.
  • Do it together and take some time to provide explanations.
Doing things together makes things more interesting and fun. It also allows you to guide them without being intrusive. Of course, it’s also necessary to explain the reasons why they need to do the task they’re doing. Be patient.
  • Give them options and show your appreciation.
Another way to encourage your children into doing chores is by giving them an option on how they want to complete their tasks. Let them plan and set their schedules. This will make them feel in control and less likely to grumble. And when they finish, don’t forget to show your sincere appreciation.

Doing these things won’t be easy, but the results will be worth it. As a trusted Montessori Learning Center in Orange, California, we at Shepherd Montessori Learning Center can also help.
