Unlocking the Montessori-based Parenting at Home

Unlocking the Montessori-based Parenting at Home

It has always been our advocacy as a Montessori Learning Center in Orange, California that every child deserves equal learning opportunity. No matter their conditions or preferences as a young person, we recognize that they are capable of achieving great things in their own way. Thankfully, you as parents contribute a great deal in this overall development. So if you’ve been greatly interested in integrating the Montessori principles in your home life, know that we’ve got your back!

To reinforce you in this direction, here are tips we would like to share.

  • Give your child as much space as possible.

This means that you’re allowing them more time to explore whether you’re at home or outside. Sometimes, this can come as a bit of a challenge especially that the adults want things done in a hurry. You might find it challenging to wait for your child to get done exploring. But we encourage you to slow down as well and get on their pace. You will greatly benefit with them when you do.

  • Don’t be afraid to use big words to your child.

Big words are those vocabulary terms that are not normally part of conversations because they’re too complex for children to understand. But we encourage you to not hesitate using them as it can be a bridge for their new learning. For instance, when you both see a butterfly, you can say, “Isn’t the butterfly’s color exquisite?” Now, your child learned an additional vocabulary.

  • Keep on observing your child.

As we extend Child Care Service in Garden Grove, California, we see to it that the children we care for are doing things they enjoy doing. When we observe our child as parents, we can get to discern what makes them excited and happy. As we do, we can integrate this in the way they’re doing things so that they will experience a level of fun. A fun-filled experience helps your child to remember things better and without pressure.

  • Practice respecting your child as they are an individual person.

It can be very easy to miss this out since our children are very dependent on us. The concept of respecting them can even come as strange. However, respecting their wishes, preferences, and ideas can make them feel that they’re someone worth listening and paying attention to. This contributes a great deal for them growing up.

  • Nurture their sense of independence in every opportunity you get.

For instance, when your child wants to use the spoon on their own, let them be but with your supervision. Even if they get messy with the food for as long as this doesn’t hurt them, you’re already doing something vital in building their independence.

At Shepherd Montessori Learning Center, we support your every endeavor in empowering and nurturing your child at home. You can trust that we do the same especially as we implement our Kindergarten programs.
